Teeth of the Dog
Casa de Campo, Dominican Republic
Location
Teeth of the Dog sits at Casa de Campo Resort & Villas in La Romana, on the southeast coast of the Dominican Republic. The course is the centerpiece of a broader resort that wraps in villas and rooms, the Marina, Altos de Chavón, beaches, pools, the spa, and on-site dining.
The course
Designed by Pete Dye more than five decades ago, Teeth of the Dog is a par-72 carved from the coral coastline. Multiple holes play directly on the Caribbean — the kind of holes that built the course's reputation. From the Black tees it measures 7,263 yards, with forward sets stepping down to 4,827.
The course recently reopened after a complete restoration — refined greens, refreshed fairways, renewed bunkering.
GOLF Magazine ranks it among the world's top 100 courses (#59 globally, #54 outside the U.S.), and USA Today named it the best golf course in the Caribbean.
What to expect
The resort's own pitch — "the best golf course in the Caribbean" — is one the ranking lists back up. The combination of Pete Dye's design and the drama of the coral coastline produces the kind of holes a broadcast can build around without working at it. With the restoration, the field will play a sharper version of the course than visitors saw a few years ago.
Visiting fans can stay at Casa de Campo's villas or rooms and pair the round with the Marina, Altos de Chavón, the beach, or the spa.
